Gorillaz’ Noodle shared a cryptic message through the dating website OKCupid last month (November), that was thought to be teasing the release date of new music from the band.
Gorillaz collaborator and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett originally revealed in June that the band’s fifth album will be released in 2017.
The new album, (created with Alan Martin), which was an immediate sensation upon its debut in 1988.
Hewlett’s days as a “comic book artist” are long gone; he’s now a cultural force who’s tried his hand at television, musical theater, and even gallery art.
In October 2016, she became the global ambassador for Jaguar Racing.
When first conceptualising the depiction of a guitarist for Gorillaz, Hewlett was initially considering depicting her as a 17-year-old adolescent girl carrying guitars, but Albarn noted that the idea was too similar to what Hewlett usually draws and suggested that Hewlett should create "something different".
Taking Albarn's advice, Hewlett came up with the first official Noodle, a 10-year-old Japanese girl.
Their new portraits, which step a little too close to the uncanny valley, are designed like Twitter avatars. The band isn’t limited to human bodies, so its depiction is more fluid.
In the video released today, they’re 2D, drawn like a grimy update of the Scooby-Doo gang.
